We’ve worked with SPACE10 to create SolarVille, a prototype solar microgrid with an energy trading platform powered by Blockchain. The ‘playful research’ project highlights the advantages of combining technologies such as solar panels and blockchain to make clean energy affordable and accessible. By bringing the vision and concept into physical reality, a town built to a 1:50 scale, the design team hopes to advance progress in the field, accelerating the adoption of new technologies.
A 960-foot-long freighter crossed the Atlantic Ocean last week running on a mix of biofuels and oil, not the usual super-polluting bunker fuel. In a demonstration project, we traced a batch of biofuels as it was created, processed, blended, and delivered to Frontier Sky. Japanese shipping giant NYK owned the vessel, and global mining company BHP hired the ship to deliver cargo. GoodFuels supplied the biofuels — made from cooking oil waste and forestry residues.

We’re using blockchain to make crewing safer, starting with seafarer documentation and certification. The project aims to streamline and expedite processes that can be marred by a lack of verification for safety documentation, paper-based certificate management and a lack of access to validated safety and training certifications of seafarers.
